Bigger Isn’t Always Better – The Science of Connections

Still reeling from HIMSS?  Connections

Have the flyers and white papers made it to the recycling bin yet?

Let’s face it, bigger is not always better when it comes to meetings.

Personally, I am a big fan of Dunbar’s Number.  Popularized by British Anthropologist Robin Dunbar, it is the theory that humans can’t sustain more the 150 social relationships at any given time.

DunbarsNumber150 is the magic number for events too. It is small enough that you can connect with everyone and large enough for a diversity of ideas. The sweet spot remain between 150 and 300, when you get beyond 300, you lose the ability to meet everyone and a sense of anonymity sets in leaving participants free to browse email in silence.

The HealthIMPACT Forums we hold across the country attract between 125 and 300 people at our largest in New York.  Here is a sampling of the great group you will meet and connect with at the HealthIMPACT Forum on March 24th at the Houston Marriott in the Texas Medical Center.
